Interesting Revival Items From America | |
Mr W T Morgan (Pontypridd) at Springfield (Mass). Singing “The Silver Cord” with Fanny Crosby, the Authoress Writing to Mr W T Evans, Temple of Fashion, Pontypridd, Mr W T Morgan, late of Pontypridd, who is now conducting evangelistic services in the United States of America, says:- “Many thanks for your long expected letter; I really felt a little angry you had not written to me, but as soon as I saw the envelope, and before even opening it, there was forgiveness given to you. I have been away for some time in Canada, and had glorious meetings there at a place called Myrtle, and also Toronto. The meetings at the latter place were glorious; it was with difficulty that I cam from there, but I have promised to return again, and will probably do so in January. I hope to go to Montreal and Quebec. I have seen a great deal since I have been in this country, but of all the sights, I shall never forget my visit to Niagara Falls. I spent a whole day there; indeed, one could spend a whole month without getting tired of the beautiful work of God. I have, as you will observe by the above address, returned to Rockrimmon and am ‘resting’, or in the words you mother used to say ‘rusting’. There is a great demand in this country for the gospel of Jesus Christ to be preached, as everybody seems to be running after the world and its pleasures. Very little attention is given to religious matters, and the churches are continually finding out some means of entertaining their members, by giving them all kinds of entertainments, such as chicken pie suppers, soirees, &c. May the Lord save them. Mr Sam Jenkins is staying with his relatives at Newcastle, PA. I do not know when he will return, probably in the Summer, and I hope, by then, to return with him. I expect to see him soon; I am longing to have a breath of Welsh meetings; it is awfully dead here, I hope to be able to start again soon, as I am tired of being quiet, but I was compelled to rest, owing to the state of my health. I am sure you would like Rockrimmon, it is a house built in the middle of the woods, and the trees, which surround it, are simply beautiful. It must be a charming place in Summer. I was glad to heart that Rev. Parry Williams was again commencing his lectures. Last time he gave these lectures, the Revival broke out; I wish it would do so again, and send a spark on to America. I was delighted with my visit to Canada, for as soon as I put my foot on the soil of that country, I had the sense of satisfaction that I was again on British soil, and under our own Government. I much prefer Canada to the States, spiritually and otherwise. The places are exactly like English towns, and there is more enthusiasm in the meetings; the only place in Toronto I felt a lack of spirituality was the YMCA. I went to sing on Sunday afternoon at one of their meetings. S G Gordon (writer of ‘Quiet Talks on Power’) was addressing the meeting. And there were over 3,000 present. I sang ‘I know He’s mine’, but it was like singing to the wall; there was no spirit in the meeting. Why is it that almost all the YMCA’s are like this? A very striking coincidence occurred in Springfield; on November 25th (Sunday). I was asked to go to the Rescue City Mission, and I went. It was a glorious meeting, and it turned into a testimony meeting. I was led to sing ‘Saved by grace’, and it suddenly dawned upon me that it was exactly two years that very night I was truly converted and also sang ‘Saved by grace’ at Evan Roberts’ meeting at Bethlehem, Porth. Mr R Mathias, Arcade, was with me. When singing it this evening, I felt full of the Spirit, and when I came to the last stanza:- Some day, till then I’ll watch and wait; The writer of that beautiful hymn (Fanny Crosby) stretched out her hand and shouted out ‘Praise Him, praise Him’, with tears streaming down her face, and this greatly moved the congregation. Fanny Crosby is on in years, and totally blind. There is a very pathetic story about here writing this particular hymn. She gave a beautiful address that evening. I have just received a letter from Mr Richardson, Moyallon, Ireland;
he writes, saying that the Rev R B Jones is unable to be present at
their convention in July next, and they are greatly disappointed.
